A1 Poster Finals

All three final type posters using Neuzeit Grotesk. (Type Specimen, Personal Response, Personal Identity.)The aesthetic of all three posters is focused on simplicity and clean lines, following the form of the typeface Neuzeit Grotesk. The final poster design is a little more graphic as it helps to emphasise the specific theme of the poster. The connection in this series lies in the grid system - the relationship is indicated where the body text is positioned, and through the repeated diagonal composition. The similarity of muted and subtle colour choices also allows the viewer to notice a flow amongst the three posters.

P.R. Refinement 07

As with the type specimen - refining the grid layout to create a connection between all three posters.

T.S. Refinement 04

Made some changes to the type specimen, building on a similar grid as the developed third poster.

P.I. Refinement

Not sure about that textured overlay. Text to be included: poem.
The book and and air balloon too literal?

P.I. Concept 07

P.I. Concept 06

What's more personal than using your own drawings. Playing around with different images and shapes.... no text.

P.I. Concept 05

Reminds me of something out of a Dr. Seus book. Very simplistic design, with flat colour and large shapes... Could work on this more.

P.I. Concept 04

Curly girl.
I seem to be focusing more on the imagery than the composition and grid. Text does not look appealing.

P.I. Concept 03

Paper cranes

P.I. Concept 02

This has a surfer vibe... not really me...

P.I. Concept 01

Concept for CMYK poster about 'personal identity'. I've used a section of my own painting to illustrate the idea that 'form follows fiction', this connects with the previous theme in the 2nd poster. I don't think using a texture for the background is a good idea.. . and the placement of the text is not very interesting.

P.I. Speed poster

1 hour exercise in class today. We had to create a black/white personal identity poster using an image of ourselves. It was good to get see what we could come up with on the spot.

T.S. and P.R. Refinement

Refinements for both posters, 1 and 2.The overall look is flat and simplified, emphasising the 'form follows function' philosophy. I will move onto the third and final poster now, and depending on how it turns out, the previous posters may be further developed.

P.R. Concept 05

Less is more.

P.R. Concept 04

Feedback: consider spacing in margins and kerning between letters, place text into columns for visual buzz.

1930s Poster

Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, poster, afiche, Martínez Ortiz de Zarate
Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, poster, afiche, Aníbal Tejada
Part of the permanent collection of the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao. Displayed during the excellent 2009 exhibit Novecentismo y Vanguardia (1910-1936).

 Lignes Farman

Woman in a bathing suit drinking wine.

Most of the posters have a flat composition with geometric shapes and bright, bold colours. Widely used for propaganda and advertisements.

P.R. Concept 02

No. Get rid of pointless space filler.

P.R. Concept 01

The second poster in the series must be a personal response on the quality of my selected type face. I've gone for the idea that "form follows function" as Neuzeit Grotesk was originally used for signage and traffic directional systems. The font is timeless and has no distinguishing features.

Exploring compositions and introducing elements of shapes and colour will come into effect here. Also, a grid system which links to the 1st poster must be developed.

This first concept is still quite formal - I have the opportunity to add more dynamics here which I will experiment with next.

T.S. Concept 11

More experimentation. Realised my previous concepts were more or less the same ideas and limited to horizontals and verticals. Also playing around with individual letters and using them as focal points.

Feedback: Bottom right corner is too busy, could move text to left corner... play around with shapes in 'Neuzeit Grotesk'.

T.S. Initial Concepts

Ten initial concepts of the Neuzeit Grotesk type specimen. Experimenting with various grid systems and design elements. My favourites are 3, 5, 9. Each one is different to the other, so in my refinements I might choose the elements I like best from those and combine them... or perhaps work with each composition individually and figure it out later.

T.S. Concept 08

The upper part of the composition is too compact, hindering the readability of the text. Varying scale creates interest when seen from a distance as there are different tonal values in the composition.

T.S. Concept 07

The i and k become one stroke... again with the alignment of letters and numbers, very tedious but creates a cleaner look.

T.S. Concept 06

This concept looks more like a book cover.
